I live in Fairfax, VA with my husband, Bob, and our red-bellied parrot, Kiwi. Six adult Whippets live with us. Jude, Beatle, Maxwell and Ringo are 10 years old while Apple and Bentley are three years old. Phoenix lives with my mother in Woodbridge, VA.
Coming from a military family that moved around a lot in the late fifties and early sixties, I did not grow up with dogs or dog shows. It wasn't until the mid-1990s when I was in my forties that I found this wonderful breed and rescued my first two Whippets. I had been working at (and commuting to) the Pentagon for over twenty-five years and felt I needed another focus and I certainly found it in this wonderful breed. In 2003, my first Whippets entered my life for the purposes of showing so at my advanced age I launched into learning about how to handle Whippets. The next obvious step was to breed my beautiful girls. While breeding is a wonderful experience, it is the versatility of my Whippets--conformation, obedience, rally, racing, coursing, dock diving, tracking--that I truly enjoy. The camaraderie and relationship that I build with each of my Whippets by developing this teamwork is the most rewarding endeavor I have experienced.
I am proud to be an AKC Breeder of Merit. I am a small hobby breeder and raise my puppies in my home to be happy, healthy pets first and foremost. I breed for versatility, temperament, soundness and "type," those qualities that make a Whippet look and act like a Whippet. I show my Whippets in conformation and all my Whippets have their AKC and UKC Championship title. My Whippets also participate in lure coursing, straight racing, and dock diving. I also train my Whippets in AKC obedience and rally. Three of my older Whippets have received the American Whippet Club Champion Award of Versatility title. This American Whippet Club title is awarded to Whippets who earn titles in multiple venues such as lure coursing, straight racing, agility, fly ball, etc.
I am in good standing with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator. I was the Local Obedience/Rally Chair for the AWC National Specialties held in Hunt Valley, MD in 2014 and 2018. I am a member of the following clubs:
